The Issue And Action Of Drugs - 941 Words
War on drugs has been an issue in the United States for several years now. Being a college student at East Carolina University, I have met several people in the community and have witnessed a lot. As I continued to grow as an adult at East Carolina, I began to fully understand how serious of a problem drugs were. People see doing drugs as a way to fit in with others, using it for social purposes. After having friends go to the hospital or sadly, die from an overdose on drugs, I have decided to take action myself. It seems that the majority of the people today do not want to fully understand the consequences that come from drugs. Yes, they feel sympathy for those who have passed away from overdose or mixing drugs with other drugs but do not seem to change their ways any. We first as a community need to understand and accept the fact that drugs are a serious issue and action needs to take place. The solution to preventing people from getting their hands into addictive drugs and becoming addicted to them is for our community and law enforcement to collaborate and start a prevention agency. Firstly, it all starts with the children and I believe we should start trying to find a way to keep drugs away from them. We need them to understand at a young age that doing drugs is not something cool to do even though you may see it as a fun time like television shows and movies make it out to be. The appellant had submitted a written statement before the Tribunal stating the reasons why he changed his study course to cooking as he always wanted to become a professional cook. Since the appellant came from India he believes there are several scopes for his future employment as a professional cook. The Federal Circuit Court contended that Tribunals decision did not include the material that the applicant had provided to the court through his statement regarding his reasons to change his study course to cookery from business management. An administrative tribunal is saifd to commit jurisdictional error when it fails to consider matters which is required to be considered by the court. Under section 499 of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth) and Direction No. 53, the tribunal is required to take into consideration those materials that are laid down in the Ministerial Direction No. 53 that is relevant to the decision[1]. The tribunal was held to have misconstrued the evidence that was produced before it by the appellant. It failed to have regard to the essential documents regarding his reasons for changing his study course and his reasons for depression. This amounted to a jurisdictional error on part of the Tribunal for failing to consider the relevant material. The Tribunal held that the depression of te appellant was a result of the considerable gaps that was present in the enrolment and studies of the applicant. The Tribunal further held that as per the subsequent analysis of the claims made by the Appellant it is because of the gaps in the studies and enrolment that caused his depression. The tribunal had failed to consider the actual diagnosis that the appellant had referred to which is evident that the appellant was feeling depressed as he wished to change his study course from management to cookery and he misses his parents who resides in India and he is away from home. The appellant visited Dr Tahayvalappil-Kyparath and the diagnosis was conducted by the same doctor. The court failed to consider the diagnosis report while making its decision. The Tribunal failed to notice the diagnosis as a result of which the claim made by the applicant regarding his reason for depression was rejected by the Tribunal. The tribunal rejected the fact that the appellant was suffering from depression as he was away from home for a significant time without any educational achievements and a considerable gap in his study have resulted in his mood swings[2]. The tribunal had taken a brief and insignificant part of the oral evidence adduced by the applicant with respect to his enrolment in the Hospitality course which was completely irrelevant to the any of the matters that were mentioned in students written statement. The Tribunal had overlooked the reasons and considered the depression to be the result of the gaps in the appellants enrolment. The Tribunal restricted its consideration by stating that there is no relevancy between the applicantss previously completed education and his recourse to management studies. The Tribunal has not only failed to have regard to the essential matters that were to be taken in to consideration as per Direction No. 53 but also failed to mention that it is permitted to make reasonable changes to study or career pathways which was also stipulated under Direction No. 53[3]. The decision made by the Tribunal with respect to the consideration of the Applicants claim and materials , it is evident that it lacked essential distinctiveness which establishes that the Tribunal had failed to have regard to the essential material that was required to be considered. The ignorance of relevant matters such as the diagnosis of depression and the evidence in the form of written statement which includes reasons of the applicant to change his study course, is a clear evidence of the fact that the Tribunal had failed to exercise its jurisdiction for which it was authorized. Despite the massive availability of renewable energy resources, their contribution towards generation of electricity in Pakistan is negligible. The Maximum demand of electricity in Pakistan is about 15,000 MW, whereas supply demand gap is about 3000 ââ¬â 4000 MW. The renewable resources used in this research work are Solar, Biomass, Micro-hydro and Fuel Cell. Pakistan located in the Sun Belt is ideal for taking advantage of solar energy. The mean global irradiation falling on horizontal surface is about 200ââ¬â250 watt/ m2 per day, equivalent to about 1500ââ¬â3000 sun shine hours and 1. 9 ââ¬â 2. 3 MWh/ m2 annually [5]. Being an agriculture country, sufficient live stock is available for producing enough animal dung to be utilized in the production of biogas. Following the latest statistical data of AEDB, the available micro-hydro potential in Pakistan is about 2000 MW. Moreover, there is an immense potential to utilize the flow of water in worldââ¬â¢s largest canal network, particularly in province of Punjab, Pk [6]. This paper presents a novel approach of Microgrid development in which micro-level energy generation resources are first incorporated with each other to form one generating station controlled by a central unit and simultaneously integrated with National Grid for both way power flow [7]. Conventionally, these DG resources are not integrated with each other and separately run the load, controlled by individual switches [8, 9, 10, 11, 12]. The power quality issues involved during the conversion from dc source to ac for Microgrid operation have become the subject of research. Moreover, the study of intelligent control for Microgrid is also in progress [13, 14, 15]. In this research paper, the single control unit is responsible for overall functioning of the developed model of Microgrid supported by the physical location of RCET Grw, Pk, where a Marala Nokhar Link Canal flows adjacent to the college. The complete simulation of Microgrid has been performed using MATLAB Simulink for supplying power to RCET library. 2. Real Models of Renewable Energy Resources at RCET The project for Microgrid development at RCET is divided into two main phases: Firstly, modelling and simulation of Microgrid and secondly, implementation of simulated model practically. For this purpose, three real models have been focused at RCET. Fig. shows the practical Biomass arrangement to produce methane gas (CH4) used directly as input to Fuel Cell or the same methane gas can be decomposed to get hydrogen. In this research work hydrogen Fuel Cell is used for simulation purpose. Fig. 3. Biomass plant at RCET Fig. 4 is indicating the PV Array which is available at RCET for solar energy generation. Block diagram of Microgrid PV Array and Fuel Cell are dc sources where the Micro-hydro is an ac source of power supply. So, for synchronization the both afore mentioned resources will also be converted in ac supply. Two methods are used to convert the dc sources into ac supply. First is the Pulse Width Modulator (PWM) inverter to convert dc supply into ac supply. The second method is the use of Motor-Generator set, in which dc motor is run by dc supply and then that motor will be used as prime mover for generator to provide ac output at the terminals of generator. Their results are also compared in this research work. Moreover, this combined generating unit of Microgrid is also integrated with National grid for both way flow of power. Whenever the generation exceeds the load requirement, the extra power will be supplied to distribution network of National grid, otherwise it will be supplied by National grid 5. Modelling and Simulation Comprehensive modelling and simulation of Microgrid to run 8 kW load of RCET Library has been performed using MATLAB software. PV Array For simulation purpose, PV Array is replaced with a 12 v dc battery, which is boosted up by use of DC/DC Boost Converter up to 320 v dc as shown in Fig. . [pic] Fig. 8. Fig. 10 is the Simulink model for PV Array based ac supply generating unit in which Motor-Generator set is used for dc to ac conversion. Fuel Cell Fuel Cell is also dc generation source like PV Array. Here dc is again required to convert into ac supply for integration among the renewable energy resources and also with National grid. For this purpose both PWM Inverter technique as well as the Motor-generator set are used. Fig. 11 shows the hydrogen Fuel Cell in which dc supply is boosted up through DC/DC Boost Converter and after that the same mechanism of PV Array, as shown Fig. 9, is used to convert up to the required ac voltage level [pic] Fig. 11. Fuel Cell Simulation using Motor-Generator set PWM inverter is commonly used for dc to ac conversion. However, Motor-Generator set has also been practiced during this research work. Due to certain inherited characteristics, like increase in technical losses, vibration at starting etc, PMW is preferred considering operational and economic comparison. 5. 3. Micro-hydro Micro-hydro is an ac source of power supply. For simulation purpose, Micro-hydro is replaced with a synchronous generator. Fig. 13 indicates the internal model of Micro-hydro. Comparison of PWM and Motor-Generator Set output In the following sections, comprehensive comparison of PWM and Motor-Generator set techniques is given graphically along with tabular form. This comparison reveals that the latter mechanism is suffering from unavoidable fluctuation initially, resulting in undue operational and economic constrains. Keeping in view the above scenario, PWM technique is more advantageous. 6. 1. PWM Inverter The results for PV Array obtained in result of simulation performed using Fig. 7 are given in Fig. 14. During time interval (0ââ¬â0. 4) sec, PV Array shares 2. 67 kW (out of 8 kW) of Library load and rest of the 3. 3 kW is supplied to National grid. From (0. 4ââ¬â1. 0) sec PV Array is supplying total generating power (6 kW) to National Grid. The results for Fuel Cell got in result of simulation performed using Fig. 7 are given in Fig. 15. At time 0. 3 sec, 1. 5 kW is added with the system, and at 0. 5 sec another 2 kW is connected wit h the system and at 0. 7 sec additional 2. 5 kW load is connected with the system. Now total load connected to Microgrid (interconnected with National grid) is 12 kW, where 6 kW is shared by Microgrid while remaining 6 kW is supported by National Grid. Fig. 21 shows the results measured by scope in which at time interval 1 sec. the breaker of National Grid is open. The purpose behind this is to produce an artificial over current fault when all the 12 kW load is supposed to be shared by Microgrid, resulting in voltage drop at output terminals of Microgrid. Conclusions This novel approach comprising of locally available renewable energy resources and integration of these resources for up-gradation to commercial use will really help the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) and Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) to set their directions while planning about generation of electricity from renewable energy resources to minimize huge gap between demand and supply. Comparing traditional and latest instrumental techniques is really interesting during this research work. "It may sound schmaltzy" Kaynes concedes, "but it's a schmaltzy business. We're selling sentiment." Still, how do you market a memory? For companies like Hallmark, FTD, Bron Shoe, and others in the "sentiment expression" industry, selling can be a daunting task. After all, its hard enough to describe sentiment, let alone market it. Of course, its not all blue smoke and mirrors; there are products involved here. But even though you can "reach out and touch" things like flowers, cards, and bronze baby shoes, these aren't your standard durable goods by any stretch of the imagination. The real function and purpose of such items is to act as a messengera vehicle of communication between sender and receiver designed to capture a moment in a way that's both memorable "and affordable (in other words, not as constricting as vows or as expensive as diamonds), conveying the proper sentiment in a language and fashion that's as close to universal as possible. Naturally this requires using some highly creative sales and marketing techniques, and its a testament to the success of these three companies that many of the strategies they've developed over the years have since become standard operating procedure in areas like point-of-purchase, direct marketing, and distribution. And if you're wondering whether prophets can also make profits, consider this: Hallmark, FTD, and Bron Shoe together generate sales of over $5 billion a year, a figure that's guaranteed to make even the most hardened marketer a little misty- eyed. Despite such an impressive record of innovation and achievementboth historically and financiallythese companies aren't content to rest on their laurels. For them, success in selling sentiment is an ongoing process: Hallmark introduced both the first mass-marketed greeting card and the first computerized card; FTD developed flowers-by- wire (and later flowers-by-phone), as well as the first catalog of standardized bouquets and, more recently, the first tie-ins between flowers and brand name products; Bron-shoe was the first company to bronze baby shoes and has continued to innovate by adding porcelainizing techniques and branching out into related areas of sentiment expression. With more than 200 years of sales and marketing experience among them, these companies clearly bring a lot to the table when it comes to formulating strategies and tactics. "At Hallmark, we believe a greeting card has the ability to warm a heart, tickle a funny bone, toast a bride, blow a kiss, ease a pain and start a tradition," says Donald J. Hall, chairman of Kansas City, Mo.-based Hallmark (and grandson of the founder). The popularity of mass-produced greeting cards can be traced to 19th-century England and America, when the advent of cheap, efficient color printing methods and low postage rates suddenly made it easier and cheaper to produce these poignant purveyors of sentiment. By the 1880s, there were literally hundreds of varieties of mass- printed Christmas, New Year's, and Valentines Day cards available at the neighborhood pharmacy, dry goods store, or print shop. It is through this moment that, I completely shunned my previous view of old age as being boring, frustrating, sickly and of it being only a step away from death. Seeing this video has made me realize that, aging is unique to every person and it only depends on how one wants it to impact on his or her life. I have learnt that, I am the one to determine the kind of life to have as an older person. This has also taught me to treat each elderly person individually, identify their needs and respond to those needs separately without generalization. This will also be an effective way of ensuring that the treatment and care I give during practice is in line with the assessment done on an individual and specific problem and needs identified (Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses, 1997). I have also realized that being old is just a continuation of a personââ¬â¢s life and that it should not stop one from living his or her life as before. Health is of value even during this age and maintaining it in terms of exercise, diet and positively enjoying oneself should be a priority for all (Wilmoth & Ferraro, 2004). Other than this, the old equally want to be loved, taken care of, have company and be respected just like everyone else. Caring for the older people during my practice should therefore ensure that my patients not only feel, respected, loved and cared for as brought about by Grinspun, et al. (2001-2002), but that they also feel like their transition into old age is normal and that it can be exciting as well.
